LEATHER: the leather used is cow-hide, first polished and then cut into strips of the required dimensions. These are then stretched to create the interlacing of weft and warp that gives the product its characteristic personality.

ABACA:

ABACA: or oriental hemp, vegetable textile fibre made from various musa species, above all Musa textilis. Its large leaves form a shape like a false trunk, measuring up to seven metres in height. The best fibre comes from the inner leaves, the base of which, made into vertical strips, are scraped to remove the fibre. Each trunk gives an average of half a kilogram of lint, which is then sorted and dried: 1-2,5 metres long, it has a white-yellowish-brown colour, with a glossy and silky appearance.

LAMPAKANAI

LAMPAKANAI is a vegetable fibre, an extremely fast-growing plant that can be found in swampy areas and rice fields. Its availability is such as not to damage the ecosystem, the working process shows a considerable care and manual skil.
The handpicked and sun-dried stems are selected and braided, the braids are then interwoven between small rattan core reeds to cover the wood frame. On the finished piece no stain, dye or varnish are used.

MALACCA CANE:

MALACCA CANE: this variety of Indian hemp, processed and dyed, derives from the same-name Asian peninsula. Malacca cane (Calamus Ascipionum) is the most precious species of the rattan family (Calamus). It can reach a height of 80 metres and, similarly to bamboo, has a stalk that is defined by a series of segments. It has a glossy bark, and varies in colour from reddish to gold and brown.

PARCHMENT:

PARCHMENT: made from sheep-hide that is bated in lime, dried, smoothed and then dyed, to give that special amber-coloured antique appearance.
